Displays dark malt flavors like chocolate and roast without intense acrid or burnt flavors of stout. Hopping varies widely.

History:

Porter history extends back to the early 1700s, but this more modern version includes black patent malt, which dates from about 1817. Porters made without this are known as English Porter.
